This year’s edition of the Picfare schools badminton tournament has been widened to include foreign schools. The annual event, that is strictly for school going children and starts June 13-15 at the Lugogo indoor courts, received a cash donation of shs12m.
The event coordinator Simon Mugabi, while addressing the press at a function where sponsors Picfare Group of Companies unveiled their package, disclosed that two schools from Nairobi have agreed to play.
“I have got confirmation from two schools from Kenya willing to send four players to take part in the event. They are yet to get in touch with me for the final up date,” said Mugabi. Picfare have funded the event for the last 13 years.
The company’s distribution manager Deepask Chadah said they are very willing to continue sponsoring the annual event because it’s the only tournament on the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) calendar that gathers school children.
Besides the financial boost, Picfare also donated 30 tins of shuttle cocks, 400 t-shirts, certificates and trophies. “The cash prize will go out to winners of the U-18 category while the trophies will be given to U-10, U-13 and U-15.”
